M107 is the mil-spec version of the M82 Sniper Rifle, which finally emerged from US Army trial phase and was officially adopted as the Long Range Sniper Rifle in 2002. However, the XM107, the tested type of the M107, was originally intended to be a bolt action sniper rifle instead of the semi-automatic. The production of the M107 has ceased in late 2010, the M107A1, upgraded version of the M107, was available in 2011 for commercial release. The significant enhancements include a reduction in weight of 5 pounds, a new cylindrical titanium muzzle brake and titanium barrel key / recoil buffer system which allows the weapon to operate with a special designed suppressor, and other functional modifications that increase durability and operator utility.
