The FN SCAR (Special Operation Forces Combat Assault Rifle) is a series of rifle designed and manufacturered by Belgian firearm manufacturer FN Herstal in 2004. The SCAR have two major models which are SCAR-L that shoots 5.56 x 45mm NATO and SCAR-H that shoots 7.62 x 51mm NATO. The SCAR was developed for the United States Special Operations Commant (SOCOM) to satisfy the rquirments of the SCAR competition. In 2009, the first 600 SCAR was issued to 75th Ranger Regiment and deployed into combat. The SOCOM also purchased SCAR but they later cancelled the purchase of SCAR-L due to limited funds and lack of enough of performance difference compared to other 5.56mm rifles, but they still purchased 5.56mm conversion kits. The SCAR is in service in over 20 countries.
