Makarov Pistol or PM (Russian: Пистолет Макарова, Pistolet Makarova) is a Russian semi-suto pistol which became the standard sidearm of the Soviet Union Military and Police from 1951 to 1991. The PM fires the 9x18mm Makarov Cartridge which is the most powerful cartridge for fitting its straight blowback operation, however, PM has a very poor accuracy. It was selected for replaceing the Nagant M1895 Revolver and Tokarev Pistol because of its simplicity (few moving parts), economy, ease of manufacturing and reasonable stopping power. PM was remained in Russian Service now even it was formally replaced by the MP443 Grach (Yarygin PYa) Pistol in 2003.
