Walther PPK, which means “Police Pistol Short” in German (Polizeipistole Kurz), was developed in 1931 for German military and police use. It was the most successful double action semi-auto pistols in the world as its design inspired other pistols like the Soviet Makarov, Czech CZ50, etc. PPK/S was developed in 1968 for the US market which used 9mm bullet instead of .32 ACP which PPK used.
PPK and PPK/S is a well known James Bond's weapon for "007' Series until he changed P99 in “Tomorrow Never Die”. He used PPK again (which is a PPK/S in 9mm) in “Quantum of Solace” and also in “Skyfall” which is custom made by Q.
