H&K UMP (Universale Maschinenpistole, German for "Universal Machine Pistol" ) is a submachine gun (SMG) developed by H&K. It developed as a successor to the MP5, though both remain in production.
UMP is designed to chamber larger cartridges to provide more stopping power against unarmored targets than the 9x19mm MP5 provides. Due to the more recoil and worse handling in full-auto firing, the cyclic rate of fire was reduced to 600-650 round per minute in order to have easy-control for the shooter.
Here's the variant of the UMP: the UMP45 which fires .45 ACP cartridge; the UMP40 which fires .40 S&W cartridge; the UMP9 which fires the 9x19mm cartridge same as MP5 and the USC (Universal Self-loading Carbine), which is the civilian version fires in semi-auto for sporting purposes.
