Type 89 Assault Rifle (refer as type 89 5.56mm rifle) is a Japanese made assault rifle used by Japan Self-Defense Forces, Japan Coast Guard's Special Security Team and the Special Assault Team. It has replaced the old Type 64 Battle Rifle in frontline units from 1989.
Type 89 rifle was never exported outside of Japan due to its strict anti-hardware export policy. Type 89 also has a variant known as Type 89-F, which is the folding stock version of the standard Type 89 Rifle.
TERCEL Type 89 AEG has a special made metal gear box (Ver 8 Gear Box) which comes with semi-auto, 3-round burst mode (Mechanical Burst) and full auto.
