Type 57 Rifle is the ROC version of M14 Rifle. Before the production of Type 57 Rifle, the ROC Armed Forces were the second largest armed forces around the world that armed with M14 Rifle. In the 56th year of the "Republic Era" (AD 1967), the M14 Rifle's tooling and assembly line was sold to ROC and the rifle started producing and serving the ROC Armed Forces in the 57th year of the "Republic Era" (AD 1968), so the rifle was named Type 57. The State Arsenal of the Republic of China produced over 1 million of these rifles from 1969 to the present.

M14 Rifle is an American Selective fire automatic rifle which developed to chamber 7.62x51mm NATO round in 1950s, based on the M1 Garand Rifle. It was the standard issue US rifle from 1959 to 1970 before replaced by thr M16 rifle. However, due to her high accuracy and better long range support in semi-auto mode, M14 has been modified and used by the US force again in batterfield and provided the basis for the M21 Sniper Rifle in 1975, and M25 Sniper Rifle, enhanced verion of the M21s and put in use from Gulf War(Operation Desert Storm) in 1991.
