The Howa Type 89 is a 5.56 x 45mm NATO standard issue assault rifle designed, manufactured by Howa Machinery and used by Japan Self-Defence Force(JSDF), also used by Special Secuity Team of Japan Coast Guard and Special Assault Team. It resembles the US designed Armalite AR-18 rifle and the 7.62 x 51mm Howa Type 64 in 1989.
